Nine of the eleven defendants in the Nordis Case, including former PSD MP Laura Vicol and her husband, Vladimir Ciorbă, are challenging the preventive measures ordered by the Bucharest Court of Appeal as the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ÎCCJ) prepares to hear these appeals on Thursday. Five of the defendants are currently in preventive detention, three are under house arrest, and three are under judicial control. DIICOT, which initially sought the preventive detention of all eleven defendants, also contested the court’s decisions regarding the six defendants who were not detained preventively.
Among those contesting their detention are Laura Cătălina Vicol Ciorbă, Vladimir Răzvan Ciorbă, Gheorghe Emanuel Poştoacă, Nicolae Cristian Poştoacă, and Florin Alexandru Poştoacă. Other defendants contesting their preventive measures include Bogdan Adalbert Şaitoş, Sanda Răileanu, and Oana Claudia Oprea, who are under house arrest, and George Marian Ivan, who is under judicial control. DIICOT contested the judicial measures for Cristian Andrei Matei and Gabriela Alina Vasile, who did not appeal their judicial control.
All appeals will be addressed by the ÎCCJ judges on Thursday, February 13th, at 2:00 PM, with the initial date having been set for Wednesday, February 12th.
The Bucharest Court of Appeal previously accepted DIICOT’s proposal for a 30-day preventive detention for five defendants, including Laura Cătălina Vicol Ciorbă, until March 6th. Other defendants received house arrest or judicial control measures, depending on the court’s decisions, which DIICOT contested in certain cases.
Exactly 11 individuals were initially detained on February 4th for forming an organized criminal group and several serious crimes, including money laundering and tax evasion. The investigation has led to the seizure of various assets, while collaboration with antifraud specialists has been confirmed.
